One of the best days for Veppasalanam rains this June. Rainfall in TN and KTC on 24.06.2020

The Depression (Ex Burevi) as a cyclone entered Palk Strait / Gulf of Mannar in the early hours on 3rd of December. It is more than 48 hours now and still remains there in Gulf of Mannar as Well Marked Low Pressure Area (WML_.  And it is spinning up clouds up north to Cuddalore and Delta belt again.

Why is Depression (Ex Burevi) did not move ?

The Depression was caught between the two ridges and was stuck. Not under grip of both. So it is staying in one place. But it is weakened it will be pushed aside by low level easterly winds by tomorrow.  Alomost 48 hours now, i have not personally witnessed something like this, in years of tracking weather. Normally the stalling happens in mid-lattitude systems in Gujarat in South West Monsoon. This is first time we are seeing

This will be the final stand of the WML (Ex Burevi) as it will be there till tomorrow noon and then will weaken into low pressure area and then it sends a pulse to Arabian Sea and the pulse will develop in Arabian sea and move away. There will be some pull effect or activated easterlies till 8th December for rains in Tamil Nadu. After that the rains will reduce and will be in for a break for 9/10 days.

What is should we expect till tomorrow ?

The same pattern of rains like yesterday will happen today too with Delta, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur Pondy, Karaikkal, Chennai and KTC all ideally placed for rains with breaks being located in the northern pheriphery of the WML. The nearby areas such as Ramanthapuram, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Sivangagai, Pudukottai, Dindigul  Sadly no respite for worst hit Cuddalore and Delta belt for one more day.

Interiors and West Tamil Nadu will join soon

Once the WML further weakens tomorrow, the winds will move interiors from 6-8th December, the interiors, West Tamil Nadu like Kovai, Nilgiris, Dindigul. Tiruppur, Theni will all join the Burevi Party. Kanyakumari yaru kannu pattucho theriyala, it is one district in south which has missed the rains completely.

Chennai rains with breaks will continue – tomorrow and coming days some pull effect / enhanced easterlies will give good rains for Chennai. Break in rains in Chennai after 8th December.
